Nelly, Guillermina and Rebeca are at a ‘difficult stage of life’. They’ve hit their 60s and 70s, alone, widows whose children forget to visit, abandoned in a centre-less world. So, what better than to dance? All three women have regained their footing, thanks to the enjoyment, companionship and affirmation they gain from the open-air danzon – a genteel, sensual style originating from Cuba – which has rekindled pride and joie de vivre in the elderly.
